Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! Now there is.  There wasn’t because the machines that make the special material are limited to a maximum width and that width can only make up to a 120 inch screen.  This applies to all brands of lenticular UST screens.

However XY Screens now make 130/135/140/150 inch UST PET Crystal screens by joining the screen material. This creates a seam in the material which is visible up close when the screen is not in use but usually disappears when an image is present (some images and a short viewing distance may be favourable to the seam being detected).

A standard Ambient Light Rejecting (ALR) screen is not a UST screen.  A standard ALR screen rejects light from the sides and/or above and/or below, depending on it’s intended purpose.  The one thing it always does is reflect the majority of light from a medium or long throw projector back into the room and hence in the direction of the viewer where it is required for the best image quality.   It will mess up the image from a UST projector, not enhance it.

A UST screen is a special TYPE of ALR screen (called a Ceiling Light Rejecting (CLR) screen) because it reflects the majority of the light from the projector located below it into the middle of the room and rejects light from above it (ceiling reflections and/or overhead lighting).  This yields the maximum image quality from your UST projector.

See ‘Video: How A UST Screen Works’ below the FAQ.

Delivery from date of order will usually be between 8 and 14 days.  The reasons for the variable delivery range are your location, how you paid (bank transfer may add a day or two; but you save $50!), and whether the couriers are running smoothly or having some delays at the particular time.

The screens are not complicated to assemble and no special skills are needed (a little patience is probably good  though).  Just follow the written instructions and/or the video provided.  If you don’t want to do it yourself any handyperson friend or handyperson from Gumtree/Airtasker/Facebook Market Place will have no trouble helping you.

We strongly recommend having a friend help (or you being the helper if you hired someone) because two pairs of hands makes it much easier and the risk of damaging the screen fabric is minimised.

Hanging the screen only requires the ability to screw a couple of small brackets level on your wall and lifting the screen onto them.  If you’re not comfortable with that a handyperson will take care of it for you in 15 minutes.

That’s an easy one; yes to both!

There are recommendations and guidelines about that but the reality is it’s just personal preference and that varies a lot.  The best way to decide for yourself is to spend as much time as possible in front of a friend’s screen (or friendly shop’s) to give you an idea of what size might be for you.  You need to spend more time than just one viewing because many people choose a size that impressed them greatly in a 20 minute demo, bought that size, then after a few days or weeks of using it at home got used to the size and wish they had bought bigger (same goes for TVs).

If you don’t have room for the size you would ideally like all you have to do is sit closer to what size does fit and it becomes ‘bigger’ in your field of view.

No we don’t and that’s because all screens but UST screens especially suffer from image quality reduction when a screen is not nice and flat and does not move.  Roll down (or roll up) screens have problems keeping themselves flat simply because they lack a rigid immovable frame and are not held in place by a wall.  They may not lower (or raise) consistently into the exact same position every time.  They can also have or develop wrinkles, and/or move with the air movement in the room.  A fixed frame screen is definitely  the way to go with UST.
